Ski touring and splitboard camp in one of Norway's most exciting areas, the breathtaking Lofoten Islands. Description

BEYOND THE ARCTIC CIRCLE

In this exciting region, we encounter dramatically steep slopes in some places and pleasantly gentle inclines in others, with varying snow conditions depending on the aspect. What may appear from a distance as a large mountain range is actually an archipelago consisting of a total of 80 islands, surrounded by a multitude of winding fjords. Alpine-style mountain ranges, reaching a maximum height of 1200 meters, alternate just a few kilometers apart.

The daily ascents and descents will be organized on the best freeride terrains, guided by the experienced GoBeyond tour leader and based on the advice of local friends. While we may not experience the midnight sun, we can enjoy the daylight that stretches well into the evening even in April, giving us plenty of time to explore the untouched slopes of the islands on skis and splitboards. As the sun sets, we’ll carefully scan the sky, as there is a good chance we may witness the Northern Lights!

ARCTIC SURFING

When thinking of the Arctic Circle, surfing might not be the first thing that comes to mind for everyone, but the shores of Unstad offer excellent left and right beach breaks even for beginners. After a morning of sliding down from the peaks, we might catch a sunset surf session in the 4-5 degree Celsius water, followed by a sauna session in one of the beach’s panoramic saunas.

When we’re not conquering a mountain, we’re exploring the islands of Lofoten, traversing the unique waterways and bridges that connect the islands.

Program

Day 1 - Arrival

Arrival at Harstad Narvik Airport, from where we take a minibus transfer to Svolvær. We settle into our authentic rorbu house, and after a homey welcome dinner, we carefully scan the sky above the fjord, searching for the Northern Lights.

DAY 2 - AVALANCHE TRAINING AND GROUP FORMATION

After a hearty breakfast, the team participates in a brief avalanche awareness training, followed by grouping based on skill levels. After a short introduction and preparation, together with our local friends, we choose which mountain on the islands to target. Typically, there will be options for both easier and more challenging routes, both ascending and descending. The dramatic beauty of the landscape is guaranteed on every route.

DAY 3-6 - EXPLORING LOFOTEN

In the following days, new and breathtaking descents await us, with each day offering a different panorama as we conquer the varied peaks of the islands, exploring the best freeride terrains. Our goal is for everyone to push their limits and enrich their lives with unforgettable experiences while discovering this completely unique corner of the world.

For those seeking more adrenaline, Arctic surfing awaits on the gentle waves of the Norwegian Sea. If weather and the team's inclination permit, we explore the charming fishing villages of the islands, taste local dried fish, and learn why the Vikings loved this place.

After active days, pleasant evenings await us, whether with sauna sessions and cooking at home or exploring the fishing village with delightful seafood and local drinks in hand

DAY 7 - FAREWELL TO THE POSTCARD WORLD

After breakfast, transfers take us back to Harstad, where we say a tearful goodbye until the next GoBeyond camp.

*We reserve the right to change the programme. The final program schedule will depend on the weather, snow conditions, ski/snowboard skills and endurance of the team.

    Lofoten Freeride Camp

    Q&A

Not at all! There are always people who come alone, so you will definitely make new friends. The hotel has rooms with 2 beds but if you prefer your own, single room without the company of your friendly group-mates, you can request this for an additonal fee, just let us know in the application form.

If you ride with confidence on stronger red or black slopes, enjoy going off-piste, or don't mind climbing the mountain yourself rather than taking a lift then this camp is for you! There will be several guides, and groups will be divided according to different skill levels, so you don't need to be worried about waiting on others or others waiting on you.

Since we will stay on a high mountain in the winter, be prepared for everything between -10 and +10 degrees, including snowstorms with strong winds or clear, sunny, and mild weather. We recommend lot of layers rather than one super-warm down jacket, to make sure you can adapt to the changes in weather.

The daily freeride tours are led by local guides and our friend Charlie. This trip does not include a qualified mountain guide.

Ski or snowboard equipment and appropriate ski clothing, that has enough ventilation and insulation, and a basic avalanche safety kit (transceiver, probe, shovel).

Other than dinners, there aren't many opportunities to spend money. You can make the most out of 200-300 EUR, but if you'd like to savor the excellent local food with the best drinks, we suggest an amount of 600 EUR, which will be more than sufficient.

You should choose insurance that extends to going off-piste. You should be aware that the blue EU health insurance card and the insurance on your bank card are not valid in most cases, so please check carefully.

We will be staying in Norway the whole time, on the Lofoten archipelagos in the northern areas of the country, with the town of Svolvær serving as our base.

In the morning, you’ll get a buffet breakfast, from which you can take some sandwiches for the day and the hotel provides packaging for this, since it is a widespread custom in the region. In the city, there are exciting local restaurants, which we can visit in the evenings, or even enjoy cooking for ourselves all together. The Lofoten islands are full of fishing villages and are famous for their delicious cod, so count on experiencing some divine seafood!

    CHECK MORE SNOW TRIPS

It is safe to say that GoBeyond was created because the founder is a fanatic freerider, and he had not found any organized ski trips that lived up to his expectations - to score untracked powder on a great terrain, regardless of how far we have to travel to find it.

Although we like infrastructure, we are not afraid to climb for a good ride off-piste.

When we go on a ski trip, we like to indulge in the culinary and wellness options of the given country.
