Description

We climb the endless switchbacks of the Peruvian Andes, reaching altitudes of 3,000-4,000 meters, where riding takes on a completely different dimension. The air gets thinner, the landscape rawer, and the roads constantly shift beneath you – from smooth asphalt to dusty, narrow mountain tracks, often streaked with surreal colors, where every corner reveals something new. Llamas and alpacas graze by the roadside as we ride deeper into the world of the Andes.

After picking up the bikes in Cusco, we ease into the journey with a warm-up ride through the iconic highlights of the Sacred Valley. We stop at the circular, amphitheater-like terraces of Moray, then wind our way through the blinding white pools of the Maras salt mines, where salt has been harvested in the same way for centuries. That night, we stay at a hidden lodge, tucked away in the mountains – where you can sit in your private jacuzzi and watch (or even pet) llamas grazing right around you. From here, we head deeper into the Lares region, where the roads become narrower, wilder, and far less predictable. The outside world slowly fades, replaced by small villages, traditionally dressed communities, and timeless landscapes.

The next day, we descend toward Santa Teresa before reaching one of the most iconic moments of the journey: Machu Picchu. The lost city of the Incas reveals itself through the mist – not a place you rush through, but one that slows you down. You take it in, properly. We spend the night in Aguas Calientes before returning to the bikes.

Back in the saddle, we ride one of the most beautiful high-altitude roads in the Andes toward Ollantaytambo, one of the most impressive architectural sites of the ancient Inca Empire. From here, we flow further south toward Sicuani – faster sections, endless curves, and open highland plateaus rolling into each other. On the way to Rainbow Mountain, a unique experience awaits: local riders take us up to the viewpoint, where the colors of the mountains genuinely feel beyond real. From here, more hidden gems unfold – the layered, almost painted ridges of Pallay Punchu, followed by the Q’eswachaka rope bridge, still rebuilt by local communities every year using traditional methods. These are not staged attractions – they are living parts of the Andes.

Peru is a layered experience, where landscapes, culture, and roads are constantly shifting. Over the course of the journey, we cover more than 1,000 kilometers on some of the most spectacular roads in the Peruvian Andes.

Accommodation

After arriving, we spend our first evening in Lima in a seaside villa, easing into the journey. The next day, after a short flight, we continue acclimatising in vibrant Cusco, staying in a truly authentic hotel.

The following two nights are spent in two different, unique mountain lodge, where we experience true high-altitude living, far from the noise of the world. Our jacuzzi-equipped guesthouses sit among freely roaming llamas and alpacas, while the sunset is something you won’t forget anytime soon.

In Santa Teresa, we add another layer to the experience with a forest lodge, before heading out for the Machu Picchu tour. Over the next three stops, we unwind in comfortable, well-equipped hotels - the perfect reset after longer riding days.

On the final night, we return to Cusco, staying at a 5 stars hotel.

The package includes two meals per day, except on arrival and departure days. Peruvian cuisine is one of the most diverse in the world, blending Inca traditions with Spanish, African, Chinese, and Japanese influences. With thousands of varieties of potatoes, alongside corn, ají peppers, different types of ceviche, and fresh seafood, the local restaurants we visit are an essential part of the journey.

We ride CFMOTO 450MT motorcycles, rented for seven days. The group is supported by an experienced local motorcycle guide, a support vehicle providing full technical backup, and a GoBeyond tour leader with years of riding and expedition experience. Daily fuel and insurance costs are not included in the price.

The terrain varies: there will be long, smooth stretches of asphalt, but also bumpy, dusty dirt roads, river crossings, mud, and gravel. The local and GoBeyond tour guides will assist you in every situation.

Advanced motorcycle skills: can ride for six hours safely in any terrain and weather.

Every rider must bring their own motorcycle protective gear and helmet. We do not recommend wearing leather motorbike suits as we do not go fast on the bikes. Long-stemmed motorcycle boots, and a protective top are strongly recommended. It's a good idea to have a mesh layer of gear (to wear in the hotter locations) with the ability to throw on a windbreaker/waterproof layer. Two pairs of gloves are useful as well, which can be changed if necessary. It's also a good idea to pack thermal underwear, just in case. Although you probably won't need it at this time of year.

GoBeyond’s official motorbike gear partner is FUEL, gear up for Peru on their site with the special discount code for our guests.

Maximum of thirteen riders of mixed nationalities, with two tour guides, and the repair van.

We start the tour in a region with a pleasant temperature of around 20–22°C, gradually moving toward colder areas as we gain altitude. Much of the riding takes place at 3,000–4,000 meters, where daytime temperatures are typically around 15–18°C, but can drop to 5–7°C in the evenings. Rain is also possible at times.

Riding on a mix of paved roads and off-road sections, we explore the wildly diverse landscapes of the Andes - from untouched wildlife habitats to the unique lifestyle, culture, and cuisine of indigenous communities.

We stop at the circular, amphitheater-like terraces of Moray, once used by the Incas as an agricultural laboratory, then ride through the blinding white pools of the Maras salt mines, where salt has been harvested in the same way for centuries. We also visit a bird sanctuary, where we can see one of the largest flying birds in the world up close.

One of the highlights of the journey is Machu Picchu, the world-famous lost city of the Inca Empire. In the second half of the tour, we reach the vibrant, rainbow-colored slopes of Vinicunca.

Over the course of more than 1,000 kilometers, the route leaves plenty of room for the unexpected - giving us time to stop at places that reveal themselves in the moment."

We make high-quality content in all our camps. You will receive the photos after returning home to remember all the amazing memories.

You will need an insurance that covers motorcycle riding and is valid in Peru. You can contact us and we are happy to recommend the most suitable one.

The local currency is the Peruvian Sol (PEN). We recommend bringing US dollars, which can be exchanged upon arrival. Depending on your spending habits, a budget of around 400–500 USD is usually sufficient. A typical meal costs between 5–15 USD.

Dirty good destinations, divine gastronomic experiences, great organization, always good company 🫶🏻

We love to be on the go and see as much as possible on a trip, and GoBeyond planned exactly that. There were times for relaxation, but also no shortage of unique, authentic, once-in-a-lifetime experiences. Throughout the trip, it was clear that GoBeyond emphasized offering a top-notch experience while prioritizing the safety of the group and all members of the support team. This is especially important for more extreme activities like off-road motorcycle riding. They really care about their travelers and true attention to detail.

I’ve participated in my first GoBeyond camp back in 2019 at the Azores Islands and since then I’ve visited Philippines, Chamonix, Austrian Alps, Georgia, Ericeira, Sagres and Lofoten with them. Thanks to their immense passion towards outdoor sports I have the chance to strenghten my skills in my hobbies and practice skiing and surfing in great company on the most beautiful places of this planet. Besides all this one of my favorite feature is the huge shared feasts we always do in the most authentic restaurants of the destination.

The guides are too cool! 😀 It is definitely their presence, their help that was a very big plus for me on this GoBeyond tour. Sometimes it’s confusing what they do and what they do as extras, but it was pretty well balanced 🙂

Program

10-day itinerary

Altitude: 0 m

Arrival at Lima’s Jorge Chávez International Airport (LIM), followed by a relaxing evening in a seaside villa to recover from the long journey.

Altitude: 3,400 m

In the morning, we fly together to Cusco, the former capital of the Inca Empire. As the city sits at high altitude, the day is all about acclimatization. We ease into it with light activities, starting with a visit to Sacsayhuamán, one of the largest and most impressive Inca structures, where we begin to connect with one of the world’s oldest cultures.

Afterwards, we explore the city’s main sacred sites and dive into local flavors at a historic market designed over 100 years ago by Gustave Eiffel.

70 km, mixed terrain, altitude: 3,400 m

In the morning, we pick up the bikes and set off into the Andes. It’s a shorter, 70 km ride - the perfect introduction to the motorcycles and the landscape.

We visit the circular, amphitheater-like terraces of Moray, then continue to the Maras salt mines, where salt has been harvested using the same methods for centuries.

In the afternoon, we arrive at a hidden lodge, tucked away in the mountains, where you can relax in a private jacuzzi, take in the views, and even pet the curious llamas wandering nearby.

150 km, mixed terrain, altitude: 3,200 m

After a relaxed late-morning start, we head toward the Lares region, where the roads become narrower, wilder, and far less predictable, surrounded by timeless Andean landscapes. Our first stop is a wildlife sanctuary, where we may spot one of the world’s largest flying birds - the Andean condor.

We continue to Pisac for lunch, one of the Sacred Valley’s most iconic spots, known for its impressive ruins and vibrant local market.

By the afternoon, we arrive at a different, special mountain lodge and we spend the night there.

220 km, asphalt, altitude: 1,550 m

We continue along spectacular roads, carving through mountain passes as the landscape shifts dramatically around us. Gradually, we descend into lower, greener valleys, where the air gets warmer and the scenery softer.

We pass through small villages along the way, stopping whenever something catches our eye or simply feels too good to ride past. Our destination is Santa Teresa, which we reach by the end of the day after nearly 8 hours of riding.

10 km, asphalt, altitude: 2,430 m

After breakfast, we take a short ride to Hidroeléctrica, where we park the bikes and continue with only small backpacks. From here, we reach Machu Picchu - one of the wonders of the world - by train and bus.

During a guided tour, we explore the fascinating life and culture of the Incas, before making a short, easy hike to Aguas Calientes, where we spend the night.

150 km, asphalt, altitude: 2,800 m

Still under the spell of the previous day, we catch an early train in the morning and return to the bikes. Our next destination is Ollantaytambo, home to one of the most monumental architectural complexes of the Inca Empire.

The precision and craftsmanship of the massive stones carved into the steep mountainsides remain one of the most remarkable - and still largely unexplained - achievements of ancient Peru.

280 km, asphalt, altitude: 3,550 m

Our longest riding day takes us through ever-changing landscapes, where the vegetation becomes more sparse, yet the scenery grows increasingly vibrant.

One of the world’s most unique natural wonders, the Rainbow Mountain, rises to nearly 5,000 meters, glowing in every color imaginable - something that feels almost unreal, even when you’re standing right there.

We don’t reach it on our own bikes - instead, local riders take us up to the viewpoint, adding another layer to the experience.

245 km, asphalt, altitude: 3,400 m

In the morning, we visit the Q’eswachaka Bridge - the last remaining Inca rope bridge made entirely of woven grass, still rebuilt every year using ancient techniques.
Afterwards, we head north and ride back to Cusco. We return the motorcycles and check into our final accommodation - a 5-star hotel in the heart of the city.

At our closing dinner, we relive the best moments of the journey.

We take domestic flights back to Santa Cruz, where we say goodbye and return home with unforgettable memories.

*The program is subject to change at any times. The final itinerary depends on current weather conditions and the group’s skills and stamina.

FAQ

Not at all. Accommodations usually have rooms for 2 people, so probably you'll be paired with one of your super friendly group mates, but if you prefer to sleep alone, please request this in the application form and we'll figure out something for you.

It depends on your nationality. European Union citizens can stay in Peru for 90 days visa free. If you have a different nationality, check the website of your embassy.

During the entire trip, we stay within the borders of Peru.

You need to have a motorcycle driving license valid for a 500 cc motorbike (at least).

You can sit in the back-up van and enjoy the exact same trip. Or in case you come together with a rider, you can also sit behind them for most part of the trip.

All riders must bring their own protective gear and helmet. We don't recommend wearing leather motorbike suits as we do not go fast. Durable high top hiking boots, traditional hiking boots or motorcycle boots are recommended. Make sure to bring good protective gear, as there might be minor falls on different terrains. Don't forget about your waterproof clothes as rain is also possible.

They provide helmets if necessary, but obviously these ones are used and not from the highest quality. We recommend to you bring your own one! It is your decision what kind of a helmet you prefer, but you need to be prepared for defending yourself against mud and a lot of dust.

The route is mostly on paved roads (often in poor condition), but some sections include dusty tracks, dirt roads, and moderate off-road terrain.

Drinking tap water in Peru is not safe, tap water is only recommended for showering and washing hands. To avoid health problems, only drink bottled water and use it for brushing your teeth as well. By following general health and hygiene rules, the chances of getting sick are very small. However, if anyone feels unwell, he/she can sit in the back-up car. From this point, one of the guides will ride his/her bike for a while.

It can be arranged - the tour leaders are happy to help, but it is not included in the price.

The staff contains of the following people: a professional English-speaking local tour guide who can ride anybody's bike if anything goes wrong and he takes care of any upcoming issues. In addition to him, there is also an incredibly nice mechanic and at least one tour guide from the GoBeyond team, who is experienced in leading motorcycle tours and knows the local culture and sights.

You need to pack into at least 2 bags. The big bag travels in or on the back-up car so don't bring your expensive suitcases (you can pack them in and out every day at the accommodations) and bring a backpack that can hold a few extra layers of clothes, water, camera, and any personal items you need during the day.

We are not able to provide official medical advice regarding vaccinations, as individual medical history, physical condition, and other factors determine what is required for each traveler. However, vaccinations against Hepatitis A and typhoid are generally recommended.

Depending on spending habits your budget for the trip should range from $400-600.

The local currency is the Peruvian Sol (PEN). ATMs and card payments are not widely available in many parts of Peru, so we recommend bringing cash (USD), which you can exchange at the beginning of the trip or later in larger towns and cities.

You'll need to have one that is valid for motorcycling and valid in Peru. If you need help, please get in touch with us!

We spend 7 nights in authentic hotels and guesthouses, 2 nights in unique mountain lodges.

You shouldn't worry, the back-up van with the mechanic is always the last one on the road, just park your bike on the side of the road, wait for him and enjoy the stunning scenery while he repairs your bike. Usually he can fix anything within 15 mins. The head of the group will wait for you at the next resting stop.

Sometimes. :) At least in the hotels you’ll have proper connection.
