Georgia has been on the world freeride map for a few years now, and everything is slowly coming together for us to try this exotic destination. In the past, we had received some confusing and misleading opinions, mainly from the main ski resort of Gudauri, but there is another, more exciting region called Svaneti, on the southern side of the Greater Caucasus, close to the Black Sea and Elbrus. This is where we are headed.
Our destination is Mestia, where you won’t find frantic real estate and lift developments, the terrain and nature are wilder, and the environment is more authentic. Beyond these undeniable advantages, we are incredibly fortunate that our good friend and the tour’s expert guide, Charlie, has visited here more than ten times.
Charlie’s message to the team: ‘When I first visited, each resort operated with just one lift. Since then, a few more lifts and some excellent restaurants have sprung up, but the atmosphere of the place hasn’t changed a bit. Thankfully, there’s no annoying music in the lodges, and the food is still traditionally handmade. You have to slow down a bit to fully appreciate it all. Ultimate chill, ‘this is Georgia,’ and the best of the Caucasus, Svaneti.’
We can be sure that he and his local guide friends will make the most of the terrain: with touring skis and splitboards, lifts, off-road vehicles, snowcats, and if the situation calls for it, even a helicopter.
The duration of the trip lasts from meeting at Kutaisi Airport (KUT), Georgia until the departure home from the same place. The way there and back might take an extra day, depending on where you are traveling from.

Svaneti's untouched region offers not only flawless powder runs, but also the unique experience of Mestia, with its special atmosphere. In the heart of the Caucasus, time seems frozen 200 years ago, and even the ski transfers through the narrow streets are an adventure, where you're as likely to meet cows and pigs as people. In the evenings, we recharge our batteries with traditional local dishes, world-renowned Georgian wines and warm hospitality, as well as the endless calm that defines the spirit of the locals—in Mestia, it seems no one has ever been in a hurry.
Aside from the slower pace of life and culture, the natural environment is downright shocking: wherever you look, you're greeted by the towering snow-capped Caucasus peaks. No freerider remains untouched by these dramatic mountain ranges.
Riding the Caucasus with your friends? Do you want to go with a group of people who are not all freeriders, but still want to ski the official slopes? If you're looking for a different time, a trip with friends, a little more or less challenge, don't hesitate to contact us with your ideas and we'll be happy to organise the adventure of your dreams.
