This tour is perfect for surfers and those eager to learn, but it’s also ideal for anyone wanting to explore the unique attractions and experiences Sri Lanka has to offer. Spending the last days of the year on a tropical island only makes the experience even more special.
Sri Lanka is famous for its tea plantations, its stunning rain forests, and its sandy beaches. But, there are also two distinct historical flavors that have left a lasting mark on the island: one is the colonial architecture, the other is thousands of years of Buddhist culture that continues to inspire the decorative flair of the island.
But it’s Sri Lanka’s natural landscape that makes this island country especially interesting. Along the way, we visit a national park where we’ll spot elephants, bears and even crocodiles. Another day we jump on a boat and head out whale watching, perhaps even spotting dolphins from right up close. We also visit a local turtle farm, where baby turtles are raised before being released back into the ocean.
Of course the itinerary won’t be too packed. We want to leave plenty of time to soak up the unique experiences Sri Lanka has to offer, even in our down-time. Take your time sipping coconut water on the beach, or sit back and relax with a cold beer in hand as the sun sets and the year slowly comes to an end.
And if you’d like to get to know the island even better, join us for the 5-day extension — an adventure into the mountains, we set off on an adventure into the mountains to discover another side of the island. Jungle-covered hillsides, world-famous tea plantations, the iconic train journey through the mountains, colonial architecture, nature, hiking, and yoga – and finally, we crown it all with one last sunset by the ocean.

8 nights in a panoramic boutique villa in the heart of Ahangama’s surf scene. The ocean is just across the road with some of the area’s best surf spots, while cafés and restaurants are only a short walk or tuk-tuk ride away.
Bright, air-conditioned double or twin rooms await, each with an open bathroom, a comfortable bed, and all the little details that help you settle into the rhythm of island life. The pool is the perfect place for slow mornings and post-surf relaxation. The rooftop terrace is where long breakfasts and sunset conversations over dinner happen and on New Year’s Eve, this is where we welcome the year with a proper rooftop house party.

The group meets at the airport, followed by a 2.5-hour private transfer to the villa. After check-in we take some time to settle in and unwind with a gentle yoga stretch after the long journey. Once everyone has had a chance to get to know each other and the place, we gather for our first dinner together, with good food and a few drinks to kick off the week.

After breakfast we head out for the morning surf lesson, followed by a short surf theory session where we break down what happened in the water and pick up a few tips for the next session.
The afternoon is free to relax by the pool, explore Ahangama, or paddle out again for an optional free surf. In the evening we head into town for dinner together, and if the mood is right, the night might continue with a few drinks and a bit of dancing.

Breakfast and a morning surf session to start the day right. After lunch we head out to explore Lake Koggala and visit a local turtle sanctuary, where rescued turtles are cared for before being released back into the ocean.
In the evening we gather for dinner at home on the rooftop, then head out to the beach for a few drinks and a night out together.

After the morning surf we head inland to visit a tea plantation and see how Sri Lanka’s famous tea is grown and processed. In the afternoon we slow things down with a relaxed yoga session to stretch out after the waves.
Since it’s New Year’s Eve, the day is all about ending the year the right way - a bit of surf, a bit of culture, and plenty of good moments. In the evening we gather back at the accommodation for dinner, and celebrate the night with a rooftop house party.

We start the first day of the year the best way we know – with a morning surf session. After lunch we head to Galle, where we wander through the old fort and explore its colonial streets and seaside walls.
On the way back we stop at the Japanese Peace Pagoda, a hilltop temple overlooking the ocean. In the evening we return to the accommodation for dinner.

Today we take a break from surfing and leave the day open for optional adventures. You can join a whale watching trip, head out on a safari to spot elephants and other wildlife, enjoy a relaxing massage or take a day trip to Hiriketiya to explore one of the most beautiful bays on the south coast. Of course, you can also simply spend the day unwinding back at the accommodation.

We start the day with a morning surf session to make the most of the waves.
Afterwards we head to the Weligama fish market for lunch, where you can experience the fresh local catch of the day. In the afternoon we gather for a surf theory session, breaking down techniques and what we’ve learned in the water.
In the evening we return to the accommodation for dinner at home and a relaxed night together.

We start the day with the last surf session of the trip, making the most of the waves one final time. Afterwards there’s time to relax and stretch out with a yoga session.
Later we head to Mirissa, where we gather for a farewell dinner at one of our favorite spots celebrating our week together over great food and ocean views.

We start our final day with a group meal. Checkout from the hotel is around noon, then we head to the airport and return home with amazing new memories.
Alternatively, those who wish can extend their stay and spend an additional 4 nights on the island with us on our optional adventure add-on.

For those who prefer to stay longer, we organize a trip into the mountains to explore world-famous tea plantations. Here, we spend two nights at a secluded organic farm producing the highest quality artisanal tea. We go hiking, practice yoga, and attend cooking and tea classes.
On the third morning, we board a train and spend half a day travelling through tea plantations on the world's most beautiful railway line. In Nuwara Eliya, the capital of the Sri Lankan highlands at 1,868 meters, we stay in an elegant, colonial-style grand hotel. Finally we visit an ethical elephant orphanage on the way back to our beachfront hotel near the airport for our last night before flying home.
