Description

There’s a theory that real adventure only starts when you’re someplace you can’t get to easily. The kind of place that isn’t a tourist trap, so you can enjoy the major sights without being trampled by others.

After several transfers and a propeller plane flight, we arrive at a paradise that is said to be like Bali 30 years ago, before tourists and international hotel chains discovered it.

Siargao is a completely different world compared to South East Asia’s usual hotspots. The environment, the pace of life, and the people create a truly idyllic setting. You’ll find the locals are smiling and kind, and they speak good English. Unlike many other tourist destinations, there are no “tourist prices” here. The locals are very environmentally conscious as they know the natural environment is their most important treasure. Plastic waste and plastic bottles are not common here, straws were banned here way before European countries even started discussions about the idea.

Everyone gets around on the roads with habal-habal (a small vehicle similar to a tuk-tuk) and between the islands with traditional boats, just as we will, to reach the best beaches and surf spots.

One of the trip highlights is visiting the local market to buy fresh fish, seafood, fruits, and vegetables. We then take our haul to an authentic Filipino island, where a local family cooks a delicious traditional meal for us to enjoy on a white sandy beach.

Surfing over a coral reef

The island is surrounded by world-class reefs and turquoise water. For those seeking the ultimate Siargao experience, it’s worth taking the board out. All beginners get their own personal instructor because surfing on reef-breaks can be dangerous for newbies. By the end of the trip, your surfing will improve more than you’ve ever imagined, and you’ll definitely form a close bond with your instructor. Experienced surfers can even surf the perfect tubes of Siargao’s world-famous Cloud 9 surf spot.
We planned the itinerary so those who don’t want to surf also have a magical time. We will visit lagoons by boat, explore caves, canoe through the jungle, and, of course, sunbathe on pristine beaches.

Head to the party in a boat

The locals love to party, and there’s always a mix of travelling surfers and residents enjoying themselves at one of the island’s gatherings. In fact, there are parties every night at different venues, with the mood set by inexpensive rum cocktails: in Siargao, a double rum is cheaper than a Coke—just make sure you have enough energy for the next day’s surf!

Seven organised surf lessons, and there is also the opportunity to freesurf on a wide range on boards. Surf lessons in this camp are tailor-made: everybody has their own instructor focused on them for seven sessions. This ensures very fast progress and the safest way to surf the waves breaking over the reefs. Advanced surfers are guided by boat captains to the best spots in the area.

Tropical climate, tons of sunshine, 28-35°C, water temperature 28-30°C. Make sure to bring high FPS, ocean-friendly sunscreen and lycra (UV protective) surf shirt.

Maximum of 14 people, usually a mix of nationalities. Solo travelers, group of friends and couples with varying surfing skills and experience.

Before and after surfing you can enjoy a big fish dinner on a beach with white sand, where you can also take a ride on a hand-carved boat into the jungle, climb through magnificent natural caves, chill at smoothie bars or party your way around Siargao Island.

There is a unique pattern of nightlife in Siargao, with a fixed party timetable. Each day, a different hotel, bar, or even a tiny uninhabited island turns into a party venue, definitely filled with locals and visitors. Surprisingly cheap rum and cokes fuel the festivities.

The local currency is the Philippine peso (PHP). We recommend bringing USD in cash and to exchange at the airport. Depending on spending habits your budget for the trip should range from $450-800. For reference, a meal is between $5-18.

Breakfast is included in the price. Besides your preferred style of egg you can try local specialities like pig skewers with fried rice. Siargao has a large number of great restaurants, cafes, and bars. Typical local dishes include roast pig, chicken and fish, but chia seed, banana, blueberry, acai smoothies with coconut milk lattes are also available everywhere. There are great Italian, Japanese, and Mexican restaurants close to our accommodation, as well as numerous charming local spots where they grill fresh fish you choose on site.

Siargao is still an off-the-beaten-path surf destination. Thirtyfive different surf spots within reach or a short boat ride away, from beginner-appropriate to the world-famous Cloud 9 for advanced surfers.

Comfortable minivans with AC for transfers from and to the airport and longer daily trips. Habal-Habal for short trips and surf sessions. Local hydroplane motorized boats, called Bangaka for island-hopping and surf expeditions. All transports besides for nightlife are included in the price.

From most countries the fastest way to reach Siargao is through Cebu or Manila. In both places we recommend a good night’s sleep in a nice hotel close to the airport. The following morning there is a direct flight with an amazingly cool 70-seat propeller plane full of locals to Siargao. The group meets in Siargao, but of course, we help you choose the best flights until then.

We make high-quality content in all our camps. You will receive the photos after returning home to remember all the amazing memories.

You will need an insurance that covers surfing accidents. You can contact us and we are happy to recommend the most suitable one.

Program

10-day itinerary

Day 1

Arrival to paradise

After a short ride with a cool propeller plane from Manila or Cebu over emerald green islands in turquoise water, you arrive at the tiny airport of Siargao. You will be amazed by the lush green scenery during your 1,5 hours long transfer to the resort. Before dinner and the welcome cocktail party on the beach, you still have time for a dip in the ocean.

Day 2

Surf’s up!

After the first theory lesson, beginners meet their private surf instructors and head to the ocean. Advanced surfers are taken by boat to one of the area's reef-breaks. For dinner, we visit one of the locals' favorite spots.

Day 3

Shaka Brah

Before diving into the waves, we grab a rainbow smoothie bowl at Shaka Café. After two days of surfing, you'll feel it in your muscles, but the incredible massages available just opposite our resort will dissolve any soreness. Tonight's dinner spot is a tapas restaurant featuring fresh, local produce and live music. If you're in the mood for a little party, La Santa is the place to be.

Day 4

Corregidor island

We start the day in the best possible way with a sunrise surf session. After breakfast, we continue our adventure by heading to Corregidor Island, a secluded spot far from the typical tourist paths. There, we'll go hiking, enjoy some beach time, and indulge in a seafood feast.

Day 5

Cloud 9

After the surf theory lesson, the practice session is recorded on camera for later analysis. We have a refreshing smoothie bowl for lunch, then check out the famous Cloud 9 surf tower. In the afternoon, we recommend another massage or some free surfing if you still have energy. For dinner, we visit a friend's house to enjoy a classic home-cooked Filipino meal.

Day 6

Video analysis and party

During the final theoretical surf lesson, we analyze the footage recorded earlier to help you correct mistakes and improve faster. We practice our moves in the water, then take a rest before a big party at our resort.

Day 7

Sugba Lagoon

We hop into a minivan and head to the northern part of the island. We have lunch in the small town of Burgos, then take a boat ride to the stunningly beautiful Sugba Lagoon, where we do a SUP session in the national park.

Day 8

Island hopping

We start our typical day in paradise with a surf session and a fresh tropical breakfast. Then we stock up on fresh seafood at the local market and head to Daku Island, where local ladies cook a wonderful meal for us. We continue island hopping at Guyam Island, enjoying a gorgeous sunset as our backdrop.

Day 9

Filipino fiesta

Last organised surf session in the favourite spot of the group's choice. Souvenir shopping in the afternoon followed by a Filipino-style fiesta at the Shaka bar, with an eventual farewell party to toast all the adventures.

Day 10

Departure

After finishing the last smoothie bowls for breakfast
we head for the airport and say goodbye to paradise, filled
with amazing memories and new friendships.

The program is subject to change at any times. The final itinerary depends on current weather conditions, swell, tidal movements, the group’s surfing skills and stamina.

Your tailor-made surfing holiday

As an advanced surfer, would you rather explore more challenging spots with your friends? Or maybe you'd like to go with the family, less surfing and more island hopping? If you're looking for a different time, a trip with family or friends, a little more sport or a more relaxing activity, feel free to contact us with your ideas and we'll be happy to organise the adventure of your dreams.

Everything was great, the island, the surf, the company and the activities. Second time travelling with Mendi, good guide, feels and brings the GoBeyond style of guiding – if I may say so 🙂 – Flexible but with a firm approach to the programs.

Everything was great, Mendi was the cutest tour guide I have ever met ☺️ A bright spot, characterful and determined, she took care of everything for us right away, almost without having to say a word. Also very good company, the whole trip was a pleasure with her. She was in control of everything to the maximum, took us to terrific places, I’m so glad she accompanied us! 🥰

    FAQ

Of course it's a yes, at least half of the group always consists of beginners. We have found perfect conditions for beginners each year, and with the help of the professional instructors, you will be able to learn the basics simply and quickly.

During the daytime it’s sunny, around 28-35°C, during the night it’s around 28 °C. The water is 28 °C. Board shorts, bikinis and lycra surf shirts (with UV and rash protection) are neccessary and we also recommend bringing reef boots. Don’t forget the ocean-friendly suncream and your hat!

A GoBeyond tour guide and professional local instructors with many years of experience.

Not at all. There are always people who come alone, so you can be sure that you’ll make new friends!

It really depends on your spending habits, it's possible to survive on less than $150 but we still recommend a budget of $450-800. For reference, a meal costs between $5-18, motorcycle rental is $8-10, a coconut is $0.5 and a rum and coke is $1.8. You should also calculate how many souvenirs you want to buy.

The local currency Philippine peso PHP is. You can only change money in banks and at the airport and some small shops with your passport. It’s recommended to change some money at Cebu or Manila airport. You can only pay by card at our surf house, there are a few ATMs but withdraws have large extra charges so we recommend using cash.

Most nationalities don’t require a visa to the The Philippines. If you do we will help with it!

Breakfast is included in the price. Besides your preferred styled of egg you can try local specialities like pig skewers with fried rice. Typical local dishes: roast pig, chicken and fish, but chia seed, banana, blueberry, acai smoothies with coconut milk latte are also available everywhere.

Tap water in Philippines is OK for washing and brushing teeth, but it is not recommended for drinking. Bottled mineral water is cheap ($0,5) and available everywhere. Alternatively, there will be a purified water fountain at our surf hostel, where you can fill up your bottles and help keep plastic out of the ocean.

Please ask your local health authority. Usually, there are no mandatory vaccinations.

There is an adequate level of hygiene, no stomach infection has occurred in the last years as the foods are healthy and clean.
