With a little exaggeration, I could say that it means everything. I know it sounds kind of clichéd, but it's the truth. I've tried to move it down the list, tried to walk away from it, but fate has always drawn it back to me. What could I do, I accepted it.
Judge of the Balkan Rally, photographer, journalist
It all started in 1988, when I was five years old, when I first saw a motorcycle race on videotape. At that point, my destiny was sealed and I was hooked for life. I learned to read from Auto-Motor magazine and have been involved in motorsport all my life. At first I was attracted to speedbikes, and most recently I bought a race bike and hope to use it next year. I’m a loyal type – I have one bike at a time and I make the most of it.
I first became involved with GoBeyond through an idea I had. As a journalistic photographer for the Isle of Man Tourist Trophy motorcycle race in the Isle of Man, I was always attracted to the idea of organizing a tour for enthusiasts. I approached Janó with this idea, thinking that we could take people there through GoBeyond’s organization. Although it is still a bit of a long way off – a year to be precise – I quickly got involved in another project. When Janó and Levi started to organize the Balkan Rally, they asked me to help them in the selection of the participants.
The brainstorming escalated quickly and I ended up accompanying the team on the first leg. What can I say in hindsight? I regret very much that I didn’t stay for the whole race. The Balkan Rally was a terribly original and unique idea, and the story structure and execution were brilliant. Janó and his team paid attention to every detail and did a careful and thorough job. There is no way I will miss it next year. And one more thing for sure – my camera will be with me. This year I photographed a Porsche, but next year I want to document the whole trip.
