Exploring South Africa’s southwestern region means experiencing the unique combination of oceans, mountains, semi-deserts, and vineyards all in a single journey. At the start of our trip, Cape Town quickly draws you in with its extraordinary cultural mix: the vibrant city, the ocean waves, and Table Mountain together create the distinctive atmosphere that sets the stage for the great adventure ahead.
Our first motorcycle route, the iconic Chapman’s Peak Drive, is a remarkable destination in itself. Carved into the cliffs and lined with hairpin bends, this scenic road lets you feel nature’s dominance at every turn, as waves crash against the rocks below and red and orange strata above tell the story of Africa’s past. After enjoying the curves at a good pace, we reach the Cape of Good Hope—a place where even the great explorers once sensed the atmosphere of the world’s edge.
From here, we continue eastward along Clarence Drive, considered one of the most spectacular coastal roads, until we reach the southernmost point of the African continent, Cape Agulhas, where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet.
From here, the switchbacks of the mountain passes ahead transport us into another world: winding through steep cliffs and semi-desert landscapes, we reach the country’s largest game reserve, where we spend the night in a unique luxury lodge. In the semi-arid Karoo region, we experience the vastness, silence, and night sky in a way unlike anything we’ve known before. On the return to Cape Town, we ride along the Southern Hemisphere’s Route 66 – the legendary Route 62 – promising the classic motorcycling experience, as we traverse straight roads and red, desolate landscapes, passing through charming historic towns and renowned wine regions.
Surrounded by vineyards and mountain ranges, with semi-desert, otherworldly landscapes, fresh seafood, legendary South African steaks, and local wines, this journey offers experiences that make you want to return again and again. On our fully organized South African motorcycle expedition, a professional local team, carefully planned routes, and logistical support ensure we reach our destinations safely – with tour guides, a support vehicle, spare parts, and mechanical assistance.

Upon arrival, we will stay for 2 nights in downtown Cape Town at a modern hotel housed in a historic building that served as one of South Africa’s largest banks for over 100 years. At the end of the motorcycle tour, we return here for an additional night.
During the tour, we will spend three nights in charming countryside boutique hotels, some of which feature their own wine bars and restaurants. In Knysna, we stay at a four-star ocean-view hotel, while our most unique accommodation is a safari lodge with luxury tents, located in the heart of South Africa’s largest privately-owned game reserve. Except for Cape Town, all accommodations have swimming pools, and in the game reserve, we are treated not only to a hearty breakfast but also to an exceptional dinner on the first evening.

After arrival at the Cape Town airport, a private transfer will pick up everyone and bring you to the hotel.
The plan is to acclimatize and rest a bit after the long journey, and toast to the adventure ahead over dinner.

We dive into Cape Town’s incredible cultural melting pot and conquer not only the city’s but perhaps all of South Africa’s most iconic symbol, Table Mountain, which can be reached either on foot or by cable car.
From the top of the mountain, we admire the breathtaking views over the city and the ocean, and if we’re lucky, we may see the characteristic cloud that drapes over the summit like a natural blanket.
In the evening, we relax by the sea with cocktails in hand, unwinding after the day’s adventures.

CAPE TOWN → HERMANUS
Daily distance: 250 km
We pick up our motorcycles, say goodbye to the city, and head south to ride around Africa’s southwesternmost peninsula, following coastal switchbacks all the way to the Cape of Good Hope.
Heading east, we continue along Clarence Drive, considered one of the world’s most spectacular coastal roads, with mountains on one side and the ocean on the other, all the way to Hermanus, where we spend the night.

HERMANUS → BARRYDALE
Daily distance: 285 km
We continue our tour along the coast heading east, and if we feel adventurous, there’s a section where we can leave the pavement for some off-road riding. Our first stop is Africa’s southernmost point, Cape Agulhas, where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet.
From there, we head inland through spectacular mountain passes, encountering semi-desert landscapes, towns with unique atmospheres, and legendary biker stops. We’ll swing by a bite at the famous Diesel & Créme vintage diner and make sure not to miss the iconic Ronnie’s Sex Shop - a legendary meeting place for travelers and bikers, despite what the name suggests.
We spend the night in the heart of a pristine game reserve.

BARRYDALE → KNYSNA
Daily distance: 238 km
We head back toward the ocean through spectacular mountain passes. Along the way, we visit the natural formation known as the Map of Africa, where the river valleys and surrounding terrain viewed from above resemble the map of the African continent.
Returning to the coast, we ride along the famous Garden Route toward Knysna, a city renowned for its gastronomy, where we end the day enjoying fresh farm-to-table oysters paired with local wines.

KNYSNA → PRINCE ALBERT
Daily distance: 245 km
Leaving Knysna, the semi-desert landscape gives way to dense forests as we tackle the Prince Alfred Pass. On steep, gravel roads winding between rocks, we climb the mountain, and upon reaching Meiringspoort, a stunning waterfall awaits us.
By the end of the day, we arrive in Prince Albert, where the desert meets the mountains, and we unwind under the vast, star-filled sky.

PRINCE ALBERT → TULBAGH
Daily distance: 322 km
On the gravel roads of the Swartberg Pass, we reach one of the most stunning sections of our motorcycle tour. Riding past a game reserve, we may encounter some local wildlife as we head toward our next stop, the unique town of Calitzdorp, known for its architectural and culinary treasures as well as its wineries, where we take a lunch break.
Continuing through the Seweweekspoort Pass with its dramatically layered rock formations, we arrive in the afternoon at our base for the day, Tulbagh, located near vineyards, where we visit a nearby winery.

TULBAGH → CAPE TOWN
Daily distance: 160 km
Our final day of riding begins on a special, off-the-beaten-path gravel road, taking us through stunning landscapes to Ceres, a small town renowned for its fruit orchards.
From there, we ride through Bainskloof Pass, enjoying the unique scenery along narrow, winding mountain roads. Continuing onward, we reach the heart of the wine region in Franschhoek, where a relaxing lunch awaits before we head back toward Cape Town.
After this shorter day on the bike, we arrive in Cape Town early enough to rest and toast to the days behind us.

We depart for the airport via private transfers, from where we either fly home pleasantly tired and full of memories.
